Recycling so much fun.

We decided to take our rubbish to the rubbish site. How cool it has it all organized so that the plastic, card can be recycled. I was so impressed. Here we had been throwing our stuff merrily away when now we could recycle. We came home organized bins and now it is a family project our part of making this world a little better.
It is really easy and if you can do it I encourage you to make the effort I know it is a bit time consuming but teaching your children young will mean that they leave their foot print on this world.
A foot print that can make a differance.
It's always good after doing anything to have a good cup of tea.

This is your year to eat healthy

Well sorry I have not written on here for a while. I have been quite sick. I encourage you to this year to try and eat healthy. My daughters and I have started taking vitamins, I intend to go around a health food shop and learn how to shop economically at this store. Eating healthy can be very expensive but every little bit that you do can help. Two years in a row we planted vegetables and it was great fun. You can buy or find some old flower pots and these can work if you live in a flat or apartment or small house. Grow herbs in your kitchen. Make that little effort into putting goodness into your body and I am sure it will make a difference. Make sure also that you look around for bargains as far as things that you use to clean your skin often some of the stuff we so naturally use is not good for our bodies. So use a little wisdom. I find it funny that a lot of the things people say are new age are really just what people used in the war to heal.
Well go have a cup of tea and take a walk make this year your year to eating a little more healthier.

Salt

Salt is an amazing ingredient. If you put it on a cut or a sore your body will immediately react. It has the ability to kill many germs just like vinegar. I have used vinegar with water to wash my wood floors. I have put salt on ice to break the ice up. What people call new age is not necessarily new age as far as medicine goes.Go check out your herbalist it is often that there you can find something for a tooth ache etc that will be less harmful for your body. I am not saying do not take what is prescribed you I am saying simply ask if there is an alternative. Some medicines have huge side effects.
So simply be wise and look after the body that God has given you.
Baking soda is another good one it cleans baths and refreshes your fridge and gets rid of bad smells.
My sister has often looked at alternative medicines and I actually think it is good to do a little research. You never know what you might find.
Also Whole Foods in Cary NC has some great samples, wonderful people and you can really feel like part of a family there. I highly recommend this store.
No doubt there is something near to you. I remember the one I visited in Norwich, Norfolk ,UK as a child I loved the smell of coffee there.
Do your research and take care of yourself.

Crocheted blankets.

My mum crocheted my brother a blanket years ago. It was done all in squares I remember at a very early age seeing her make this blanket. Scott had blankets that were crotcheted by my Nan they were big large heavy oval type blankets they were very heavy and were very warm. Years ago I use to make crocheted blankets and thread ribbons in them for baby's cribs. I still have a crotcheted blanket that I did it was never finished. I started it when I was bout 13 I can remember certain wool from certain things. If my mum sent something with wool tied as a ribbon or something i would crotchet that in trying to never forget that she had sent us something. If you go into an Antique shop or flea market or even charity shop you will more than likely find a crotcheted blanket. Think for a moment what memories that blanket might hold or what new ones you could give it. Take it home embroder flowers on it or put ribbon through it give it a new lease on life. It's amazing how simple things can all of sudden look like new. Or make one they are not that hard and as you crotchet you are keeping your lap warm during the winter.

Birds Treasure.

Well we were hit with an ice storm. It was like plastic on everything. My daughter and I cut a plastic bottle and poured in some old cooking fat then some bird seed you could add raisins or vegetables that were been used for your compost. We then put them together and put it in the freezer and then took it out side. It's amazing how what we chuck is a treasure for the birds or wild life. Remember those wee little ones at this time of year.

Priceless Jewels

Have you ever known someone to look at something old and say 'YUCK'! Well, at first it might look pretty ugly, but if you cleaned it up, it would become treasure instead of just junk going into the garbage. My Auntie sent my sister and me a bracelet from London. Though it is made mostly of fossils, the beauty of the fossils has been renewed and made into a charming, fashionable bracelet. Last time I was in England, my Nana gave me some of her jewelry. At first some of the jewels were a bit brown and had seen better days. Then my mum carefully cleaned the jewelry. They looked amazing! And some even sparkled. It is amazing what a bit of love and care can bring back to life. Your Nana's jewels could even be the modern accessory you need. Quite a lot of old things have been given new life again. Just look at your Nana's old photos and then at today's fashion magizines and you will see.
So before you throw away 'old trash', look and think what you can do with it to make it better and how you can use it today.

Old becomes new.

My brother had some brillant old hats. I wished I could have got some as my children often wear hats unlike when they were very young. If you look through your Nan's old clothes or antique fairs in England you will see those wonderful plaid blankets that we all had in our cars as kids or those wonderful lace clothes and flannel sheets. My brother loved antiques his house was quite cluttered but if you looked in it today you'd find some gems that you could use to make into something very fashionable today. Take an old cap and put a glitter peace sign on it. If you find old plaid flannel sheets maybe there is a bit torn cut that bit off and get a cheap piece of contrasting color and and now you have made the new again. Old army blankets can be jazed up too get red or black broad felted ribbon and put on them. You can use them as an extra blanket or in your car. Old flower pots can be decorated into wonderful tiddings of sweet delights clean them up and put cookies in them remember put them in foil first. My sister has an old boot in her house the classic with a flower growing out of it. I love apple crates I don't have them but they are great to store things in them. What we cringe as junk of our parents realy may well be a treasure as the saying goes don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
Look at this classic coat that my daughter is wearing believe or not my mother had a similar one in the 50's how time truely keeps still.

Are you Zebra Striped like Everyone?

Have you ever noticed how in a zebra herd, all of the zebras look the same? Have you realized that zebra striped handbags and patterns are what is in? Sometimes people act like zebras, and just blend in with everyone on the outside. They want everyone to see them as popular or someone who has the newest fad. But what is inside of that zebra striped handbag? Is there sweet smelling perfume, lotion, lipgloss, and sunglass? Or is there smelling junk food that has spoiled? It is like our heart. If we produce sweet smelling perfume like kindness, mercy, forgiveness, and love then we will stand out. But if we produce rotten smelling food like hatred, bitterness, and anger then we will just be in the crowd of the zebras, hiding in whatever place we can so to just fit in and hide what is really inside. Like we have to clean our purses out and go through what we do not need, may be this is your year to go through your heart and shop for what God wants you to produce. He's waiting and wants you to prosper. No matter what you have done, He is willing to help you to produce the most beautiful fragrance. So what are you waiting for?
